Maroon and grey grasp four top ten finishes
GAINSVILLE, Fla. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) – In front of a tremendous crowd of track & field enthusiasts, the North Carolina Central University Track & Field team grasped four top ten finishes, while seizing three season-best marks in the 67th Pepsi Florida Relays in Gainsville, Fla., on April 1-2.
Increasing speed one meet at a time, Ashley McCoy ran a career-best 23.77 seconds in the 200-meter dash for a third place finish. The sophomore passed runners from Florida, Cal State at Fulton, Virginia Commonwealth and Georgetown.
Continuing in individual competition, Nealie Whitt made his mark on the season with a fourth place finish in the discus. Whitt passed his previous throwing record of 49.84 meters by throwing a career-high 51.79 meters.
The mighty maroon capped the top ten finishes with relay competition. The women’s 4x100 meter relay team consisting of Saquenda Dallas, McCoy, Crystal Shepherd and Joann Blakney, shredded seconds off their top mark with a seventh place finish in 45.41 seconds.
The women’s 4x200 meter relay team rounded out the top ten finishes in the prestigious meet with a 10th place finish. La’Creesha Gore, McCoy, Shepherd and Dallas completed the race in 1 minute and 37 seconds.
NCCU returns to the track on Friday, April 8 with the Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C.
