DURHAM, N.C. North Carolina Central University's Winston-Salem Alumni Chapter will sponsor "An Elegant Evening of Jazz and Dancing" on Friday, April 4, 2003 at the Benton Convention Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

The event will honor former and current NCCU alumni directors, including, William Evans, Roger Gregory, George Nixon, Al Richardson and Ellis Smith.

As the current director of alumni relations, Gregory is responsible for conceiving, organizing and facilitating alumni programs with particular emphasis on increasing the involvement, understanding, enthusiasm and financial support of alumni toward the University.

Prior to joining the NCCU family, Gregory was director of human resources at North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company. Gregory graduated from NCCU in 1971 with a degree in business administration. He has previously served as NCCU alumni national president (1976 to 1981) and past president of the Durham, New York City and Northern New Jersey Alumni Chapters.

Evans graduated from North Carolina College at Durham (now NCCU) with a degree in biology. He later attended Purdue University, Temple University, Indiana University for graduate study.

Evans worked at NCCU from 1971 to 1997 in a variety of roles, including assistant vice chancellor for development, director of university and community relations, assistant to the chancellor, and director of alumni affairs.

Nixon graduated from North Carolina College at Durham (now NCCU) in 1953. He also attended Indiana University and completed his doctoral study at Auburn University. In addition to serving as director of alumni affairs, Nixon worked at NCCU from 1957 to 1991 as a tenured associate professor.

Richardson, president and CEO of Richardson and Associates Consulting, is a 1958 graduate of NCCU. He also studied at Howard University School of Law, Syracuse University School of Social Work, and the State University of New York at Albany School of Social Services.

In addition to serving as director of alumni affairs at NCCU,
Richardson also became the director of major gifts with the responsibility for all scholarship endowment and general program fundraising activities

Smith received his bachelor's and master's degrees from NCCU in 1961 and 1970 respectively. He began his career as an art teacher in the Durham Public School System from 1962 to 1968. He later worked at several institutions of higher education, including Mercer County Community College in Trenton, New Jersey, Elizabeth City State University, and NCCU.

Proceeds from the gala will support scholarships at NCCU.
